Ty Walker went missing from his hometown of Roscoe, Montana back in 1972.
He has mysteriously reappeared, crafting sonically rich numbers with a group of what to appear to be extraterrestrials, calling themselves “The Humanoids” or sometimes referred to as “The Gang of Galactic Ghouls”.
From an outsider’s perspective, it may seem puzzling why a group of ragtag extraterrestrials, an abducted Montanan songwriter, a seemingly cyborg, and myself (‘Jimbo’ as they often call me) chose a geometric dome just outside of Portland, Oregon to record their debut record “Where the Hell is Roscoe?”. Well, I was puzzled at first as well. I said to Glarzak “Why don;t we record in the ship?! We have all we need. Or Gonton’s state of the art studio on the edge of Glarphonia’s shadowland?!” Both those options would produce otherworldly production value in my humble opinion. Anyway, Glarzak replies “This is where Zeob told us to go. She gave us exact coordinates. She says this location lies directly on a cosmic leyline and the vibrations are just right”.
So that’s what we did. In October of 2021 we headed to this land, a couple acres, hidden in the trees, and there were two geometric structures. Once quite large, the other other quite small. We slept in the small one, and made noises in the big one. What was my role? Well, I guide Ty Walker (and Lord knows he needs it), some say I’m his sage. Others say I don’t exist. Who cares what others say?
Back to the details of the session though. There was some magic in that room full of instruments the week that Humanoids took it over. They even invited some humans from the area to come and join in on the festivities. Micheal Finn who helped co-produce this thing… he’s worked in the studio with bands from Earth like Modest Mouse, My Morning Jacket, and probably other bands that start with “M”. And then there was Nathan Vanderpool. He was at the helm, twisting knobs and jumping in on harmonies and other shenanigans. Eric Earley, he’s in a band from Oregon called Blitzen Trapper; he came in and played some guitar riffs and piano. Boy howdy, that guy can play! There were other folks who stopped by, too. It was a real scene.
Of course the Humanoids were there, too. Glork, mostly laying the bass down. Gary on the drums. Glarzak on guitars and keys and some vocals. Thumper was there laying down that ‘Glarphinan Goo’ as they call it, putting the sprinkles on. SilverLining was undergoing a firmware update and wasn’t present for this session, which really was a shame, because that tin can lays down the galactic twang like it ain’t no thang. That metal boy is really something, ha.
So anyway, all these characters were thrown into this cosmic stew of sound, and what came out of it was what we call “Where the Hell is Roscoe?”.
You may be wondering where the album title came from. Pretty simple really. When Ty Walker first came into the Humanoids life, Thumper asked “You’re from a place called Roscoe? Where the hell is Roscoe?”. It’s more of a state of mind than a place, I reckon.
That’s what I remember, so that’s what I can tell you. See somewhere out there on that long and winding galactic highway. Yaw!
– Jim, aka ‘Jimbo’
